ANKARA: Israeli President Isaac Herzog arrived in Ankara to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to the report, Israeli President Isaac Herzog's visit to Turkey was scheduled a few weeks before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Diplomatic relations between the Jewish state and the Muslim-majority country of Turkey, which supports the Palestinian cause, have been strained for more than a decade.

This is the first visit by an Israeli leader to Turkey in 15 years in which the two countries will try to re-establish tense relations.

"We will not agree on everything. Relations between Israel and Turkey have certainly been volatile in recent years, but we will try to re-establish our relationship," Herzog said before leaving. We will establish it carefully.

Key issues on the agenda of the two-day visit are likely to include the sale of gas to Europe, which has become an urgent issue during the Ukraine conflict.

It should be noted that Turkish-Israeli relations took a turn for the worse when Israel attacked the Turkish ship Mavi Marwara in 2010 and killed 10 civilians.
