Pakistan: 2,000 year old artifacts discovered

PESHAWAR: Archaeological remains have been discovered in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including a Buddhist stupa, which experts say is 18 to 1900 years old.

According to details, the Department of Archeology and Museums of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has achieved a great success in terms of archeology. 

Dr. Abdul Samad, Director, Department of Archeology and Museum, said that the Department of Archeology had recently found archeological sites in Bahu Dheri village of Swabi.

Dr. Samad said that the Department of Archeology excavated the site in a scientific manner so that no damage was done to the artefacts, therefore it took 6 months to complete the excavation.

According to the department, more than 400 artefacts have been found in the discovered stupa, which is 18 to 1900 years old. It is the largest of all the stupas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said Dr. Samad. The discovery is a great achievement for the Department of Archeology.

There are other archeological sites around the area, Dr. Samad said, adding that further research will be done on the artefacts found in the new stupa, which will reveal the history of the area and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The director of archeology said the archeology department was now taking further steps to secure the site.
