Oslo talks will help change war atmosphere: Taliban

Saturday, January 22, 2022

KABUL: The Taliban, in anticipation of the forthcoming talks in Oslo, have expressed hope that the Taliban's first formal talks on European soil would "change the atmosphere of war" after two decades of insurgency against North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces.

According to foreign news agency AFP, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said: "The Islamic Emirate has taken steps to meet the demands of the Western world and we want to strengthen our relations with all countries through diplomacy.

He said the Taliban wanted peace instead of war. According to the Taliban and Western officials, talks will begin in Oslo, which will discuss issues related to human rights and aid activities.

The Taliban delegation is also expected to meet with Afghans from civil society, including women leaders and journalists.
