 Multan rally: Government and opposition clashed, dozens arrested, most of the city's roads sealed

  • The anti-government Ittehad-e-Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has announced to show political strength in Multan today in any case despite not getting permission from the government.
  • The local administration has blocked all roads leading to Qila Kahna Qasim Bagh Stadium and erected barricades with trucks and trolleys. One thousand police personnel have been deployed at Ghantaghar Chowk while the stadium and Ghantaghar Chowk have been sealed off.
  • Police have once again locked Qasim Stadium, removed political leaders' drink flakes and banners from the stadium, while a heavy contingent of police has been deployed around the Chowk Ghanta Ghar.
  • According to sources, shops, business centers and Multan Metro bus service will also remain closed at Ghanta Ghar Chowk today to deal with any untoward incident.

  • Ahead of today's PDM meeting in Multan, 37 workers of PML-N, PPP and JUI-F have been arrested in Bahawalnagar.
  • On the other hand, Lohari Gate police station in Multan has registered an FIR against 80 named persons and 1800 unknown persons for attacking and occupying Qasim Bagh Stadium.
  • The named accused include former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and his four sons, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Zahid Bihar Hashmi, son-in-law of Javed Hashmi and Abdul Rehman Kanju.
  • Police have arrested 70 people, including Ali Qasim Gilani, Zahid Bihar Hashmi and Saad Kanju, while Ali Qasim Gilani has been sent to jail for a month.

  • PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that puppets are afraid of jealousy, whatever they have to do, no one can stop PPP from celebrating its founding day on November 30 with PDM.
