  • GENEVA: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called on the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to raise its voice against human rights abuses against Muslims in Palestine, Occupied Kashmir and other parts of the world.

  • According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan's Ambassador Khalil Hashmi made the statement on behalf of the OIC at the ongoing council meeting in Geneva. He said the OIC was deeply concerned about the growing incidence of Islamophobia and religious intolerance in the world.

  • He cited incidents such as the publication of blasphemous sketches by a French magazine and the burning of religious books, saying that hurting religious sentiments was an attempt to provoke a reaction. Such efforts cannot be justified under the guise of freedom of expression.

  • The OIC statement expressed grave concern over the violation of basic human rights in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The OIC called for implementation of the recommendations made in the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reports on Kashmir. In a statement, the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) said the UN Security Council should fulfill its promises to Kashmiris
