US letter to UN to restore sanctions against Iran

  • The United States has written a letter to the United Nations calling for the resumption of sanctions against Iran.

  • US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has accused European countries of backing the ayatollah and said he would do everything possible to restore sanctions on Iran.

  • He said Iran's ballistic missile test was a threat to peace in Iraq, Yemen and Syria, and that the United States would take steps to prevent Iran from developing missiles.

  • On the other hand, the Israeli Prime Minister has welcomed the US letter to the United Nations to reinstate sanctions against Iran, while three major European countries, France, Britain and Germany, have opposed the US demand.

  • It should be noted that the situation between Iran and the United States became tense in 2018 when President Trump unilaterally broke the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers.

  • Tensions between the two countries also escalated when a US airstrike in Iraq (Baghdad) on January 3 this year targeted General Soleimani of Iran, along with his associates, and killed him. The situation between the two countries is dangerously tense.
