Beirut blast France announces international conference on aid to Lebanon


  • Beirut: France has announced the convening of an international conference to help with the crisis caused by the devastation caused by the bombing in the Lebanese capital.


  • Speaking to reporters in Beirut on the sidelines of a visit to Lebanon, French President Emmanuel Macron said international aid would be collected for the victims in Beirut and Lebanon, according to the International News Agency. An international conference will be held for this purpose. Countries from all regions, including Europe and the United States, will be invited to the conference.

  • Earlier, the French president visited Beirut and met with representatives of various political parties and civil society. Macron on the occasion assured transparency in the matter of aid money.


  • IMF appeal


  • On the other hand, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, has said that Lebanon must demonstrate national unity in order to cope with the economic and social crisis following the tragic incident in Beirut.


  • He said the IMF would do everything possible to help the Lebanese people. Securing Lebanon's future will require rebuilding the economic system through reforms based on accountability and trust.

  • He also called on the international community and Lebanon's friendly countries to help Lebanon overcome the crisis.


  • It should be noted that in March, Lebanon had applied for a loan of  10 billion from the IMF after non-payment of loans, which has not yet been approved.
