Gunmen kill 60 persons in Sudan;-otgnewsupdate

Gunmen have opened fire in Sudan's Darfur region, killing at least 60 people, including children.

Gunmen opened fire in the Darfur region on Saturday, killing 60 people, including children, according to the foreign news agency.

Also on Friday, gunmen opened fire, killing 20 people, according to a UN report.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), gunmen set fire to several villages and looted markets during the attack.

The UN report says the current riots in the Darfur region are due to the softening of the agricultural season and large-scale migration.

No group has claimed responsibility for the riots in the Darfur region.

On the other hand, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk expressed regret over the loss of life and property in the riots and said that more forces would be sent to Darfur region.

The Darfur region has been the scene of riots between rebels and supporters of former President Omar al-Bashir for the past two decades.

According to the United Nations, the riots in the Darfur region have so far killed about 300,000 people and displaced about 2 million
